History of New Faith Missionary Baptist Church

New Faith Missionary Baptist Church was organized in January 1962 under the guidance of the Holy Spirit and the leadership of the late Reverend W.F. Baskin. The Church was located at 260 W. 66th Street, Chicago, Il and received its charter in June of the same year.

Working under the blood stained banner of the Lord, the membership grew both in spirit and in number. In 1967, New Faith relocated to its present site, 8400 South Halsted Street, Chicago, Il. Later, the pastor and members were able to purchase the building through a written commitment and fund raising projects.

The late Reverend W. F. Baskin labored and preached God's Word to His people here at New Faith for eleven (11) years. "We've Come This Far by Faith Leaning on the Lord" became the theme song. Reverend Baskin moved back to his native home in Memphis, TN in 1973. We were without a pastor but never alone. The Late Brother R.H. Harris, Chairman of the Deacon Board, along with the members working together in love and unity, and by the power of the Holy Spirit, kept the faith and continued praying, and praising God, knowing that God will provide a shepherd for his sheep.

Reverend Leroy Taylor (pictured, right) was called to New Faith in 1973. Under his leadership the church continued to grow. We were blessed with six (6) associate ministers, three (3) evangelists, thirteen (13) deacons, plus five (5) in training, and a Youth Church that conducted service each second Sunday.

While still under the leadership and guidance of Reverend Taylor, the men and women of New Faith renovated the church and added an Educational Building in 1987. On March 19-24, 1991, this edifice was dedicated to the Lord. Pastor Taylor's vision had become a reality! In September of 1992, the 84th through the 87th block of Halsted Street was renamed "The Rev. Leroy Taylor Drive".

In 1997, Reverend Taylor met with the members of New Faith to inform them that he had gone as far as he could go. Guided by the Holy Spirit, he appointed the next leader of this great flock in the person of Reverend Howard Randolph. On September 7, 1997 at one o'clock in the afternoon, Reverend Leroy Taylor passed the "staff" to Reverend Randolph, after serving faithfully in word and song for twenty-four (24) years. What a great man!

Under our present leader, Reverend Howard Randolph, we are continuing to grow spiritually and in number. We now have eighteen (18) associate ministers and evangelists, 25 deacons plus six (6) in training, and a Youth Church that holds worship service every Sunday in the Educational Building with over 100 youth actively participating.

Early morning service was initiated on Sunday, January 2, 2000, at 8:00a.m. New Faith instituted its first Praise and Worship Evening Service on Sunday, February 18, 2001 at 7:00p.m. with Reverend E. Redwell delivering the powerful Word of God. The saints had a hallelujah good time fellowshipping, testifying, singing, and praising the Lord!

Let us keep pressing our way toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus with Reverend Howard Randolph as our under shepherd. God has many great blessings in store for New Faith! Standing on the Solid Foundation for 48 years!
